Homeowners,
The issue of leaf pickup by the City has been one that Ed and 1A have spent a lot of time trying to resolve.
City leaf pickup is not something we pay for directly—it is a service historically provided by the City and paid for by our taxes. We are therefore for the most part subject to the City's whims with regard to when it happens, how it happens, or even if it happens at all.
As was previously communicated, in the spring the City informed us that they will no longer provide spring leaf service at all, but would continue to provide it in the fall.
The elimination of spring pickup was not something that we had any control over as it was part of larger City budget cuts. Ed, however, has been hard at work trying to salvage a spring pickup.
We are pleased to report that Ed has been successful in that regard. The City was planning to do leaf pickup twice in the fall, though the first pickup was early and before most leaves had fallen. Ed was able to trade that initial early fall pickup for resumption of spring pickup. The City sets the parameters for how the pickup works—we have no control over that.
Here are the details:
Leaves will be picked up one day between December 1-5.
Leaves must be taken to either gravel parking lot and staged neatly. 1A will mark an area for staging with some signs;
Use paper yard waste bags only — no plastic bags will be accepted. (These are available at most hardware stores or online);
Do not include branches, rocks, animal waste, metal, or any other green waste debris in the bags;
The City will forgo the November pickup and instead perform one pickup between December 1 and 5;
The City will then provide another pickup in the spring at a date tbd.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep our community clean and organized. And many thanks to Ed and 1A for working out these details with the City.
We would ask that you please wait until as close to December 1 as possible before staging your bags so they do not get soaked and ripped sitting in the elements. Note that this leaf pickup, as described, is a City service and therefore is totally unrelated to the line item in the budget for "refuse," which relates to the cost of dumpsters and dumpster overflow.
